Turf Bicycle Parking Area, 300 sq. ft.
Client:
Eastside Food Co-op, Minneapolis, MN
Project:
The owners of a local food co-operative needed an environment-friendly parking area to help encourage the use of environment-friendly bicycle transportation.
Challenge:
In addition to being environmentally sound, the owners wanted a bicycle parking area that was low maintenance and durable.
RESI Solution:
RESI installed a system of open cell grid pavers beneath the bicycle racks. An EPIC system was installed under the grass to provide irrigation.
Results:
The open cell grid pavers increased the durability of the parking area by reducing pedestrian and bicycle wear on the grass.
The EPIC system used provides a reservoir capable of storing up to 3” of water shed from the roof, reducing the frequency of required watering. The client has the capability to monitor water levels and add more by hose as needed.
